Looking Across the Canyon
This is the view from the last standing tower, looking across the canyon. You can barely make out a straight line going up the other side. That's the cable. To the right of the cable is a trail that snakes up the canyon, which is probably the old Boquillas trail. The trail is no longer maintained, but does appear on some maps and would clearly be used to get to the terminal from Boquillas. According to a 1916 hand drawn map in the Wilfred Dudley Smithers Photographic Collection at UT Austin, this canyon is clearly marked as "Ernst Basin," although on all other maps, Ernst Basin is farther to the northwest.
