The caption
from the National Park Service reads "Puerto Rico Mine - 60'
tower along tramway in 1919." What I find fascinating about
this picture is that it looks like the little hill in the background
is the
hill that's just behind the roadside exhibit of the Ore
Terminal that's near the Boquillas Canyon parking lots. If I remember
correctly, that exhibit says the first tower on the US side was
at the top of the hill. In other words, the second tower in this picture.
Indeed, I've been referring to the second tower as the first tower
in the US throughout this website.
Clearly from this picture, I'm
wrong.
Today, the road goes between this first tower and the hill. The
exhibit is on the side of the road, right in front of the hill.
I didn't see any remains of this tall tower from the exhibit, or
from the top of the hill, although I was looking for it because
I didn't know it exsited. Go here for
