The hike begins across the street from a parking lot below the
Boquillas Canyon Overlook, which is a mile or so east of the Rio
Grande Village . Here's a shot from the parking area looking to
the trail head. The trail is approximately at a 30 degree (or so) angle to the aerial tramway at this point. Ultimately, it goes up around the hill in the foreground and over an extension of the ridge in the background (the one with the pointy peak in the middle of the picture), actually, to the left of what's visible from this view.
The lighter colored areas near the road are part of the wash the
road has been built across. You'll begin the hike in this wash.
This shot was taken at the end of the hike. If I had remembered to
take it at the beginning of the hike, it would have been in shadows
and would have been cold and windy.
